There may soon be a big change in the education system. The results of the ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades can now be added to the final marksheet for class twelve. In this regard, the assessing board of NCERT submitted the Equivalence of Boards report to the Ministry of Education in June 2024. In this report, it has been suggested to include the results of classes 9th to 11th in class 12th.
According to the source, the results of the class 12th board test would comprise the students' overall performance from 9th to 11th grade. According to India Today, this report was given to the Education Ministry by PARAKH, NCERT's regulatory centre. According to this NCERT report, in the new evaluation paradigm, class 11th marks will be weighted at 25% in the class 12th board results. The tenth grade will be given 20% weightage, whereas the ninth grade will be given 15% weightage. Aside from that, the remaining 40% of the marks will be for 12th grade.
In this approach, evaluation is divided into two sections: formative and summative. Class 9 scores are split 70 percent formative and 30 percent summative. In the tenth grade, both will be assigned 50-50 weightage. In class 11th, 40 percent of the assessment will be formative, and 60 percent will be summative. Whereas in class 12th, there will be 30 percent formative and 70 percent summative.
Notably, students in classes the 9th to 12th will use a credit-based system under the new evaluation model. Students in classes 9 and 10 will need to receive 32 credits out of a possible 40 in this. In contrast, 11th and 12th graders must earn 36 credits out of a possible 44.
Currently, this new procedure is not in use. In the event that the report's recommendation is approved, the pupils' performance must remain constant throughout the course of four years.
Thank you,
